Readings: Today let's use the special before-Christmas readings:  Dec 22

The first reading:  A special mother thanks God for her special child

Responsorial Psalm: Hannah's song of thanks and praise....on which Mary's "Magnificat" is based

Gospel:  The Magnficat - a teenager's prayer of thanks and praise (with the help of St Luke)

Reflection:
Mary is aware of her privileged place in God's plan ("all generations will call be blessed")
but at the same time her focus is on God, not herself.
Mary is aware that her blessedness is a gift from God, not a talent of her own making.
Mary teaches us by her example that all blessedness is a cause for humility, not pride.
Praise from others about our talents/blessedness etc should cause us to do what Mary did
.....proclaim that all praise should be directed to God

Prayer: Mary, blessed among all women, please help us focus more on God and less on ourselves
