Readings: Today let's use the special before-Christmas readings:  Dec 18

The first reading:  A reminder that the Israelites were saved/rescued from exile in Babylon
as well as
saved/rescued from slavery in Egypt

Responsorial Psalm: The coming Messiah will save/rescue the poor

Gospel:  The name "Jesus" means "God saves"!

Reflection:
The baby born at Christmas is the Saviour/Rescuer of the world,
who saves us from every sort of modern Egyptian slavery (e.g. drugs)
and Babylonian exile (e.g. fear/depression)

Prayer: Jesus, Saviour, please rescue people caught up in drugs,
and please help people who are oppressed by fear and depression
