The
Golden Rule
David
Timbs
(Sunday
blogger from Australia)
When
Jesus was confronted with the question about what in essence the Law of
God intended for the establishment and preservation of sound
right-relationship in the human community, his immediate response was to
cut through the quarantine lines of the Divine Law and go to the very
heart of the matter. It all eventually reduced to wishing and doing to
another what one would wish for oneself.

Feast of the

Indissolubility
of Marriage
Brian Lewis
(Monday blogger from Australia)
The
early Church continued to uphold the teaching of Jesus about the absolute
indissolubility of marriage, but at the same time strove to apply this
teaching to particular situations with the compassion that Jesus himself
had shown to those in difficulty

David Timbs (Australia)
The timing of this story is very
important for John. The Passover was the annual Jewish memorial feast of
national liberation. Perhaps many in the crowd here were on their way to
Jerusalem to offer sacrifice and share the ancestral memories. They would
remember two things in particular: freedom and bread.

Fr John Dear SJ (NCR)
In 1945 Americans were duped. The government insisted the bomb was
necessary. They said it ended the war, it saved lives. We know now we were
lied to. President Eisenhower wrote in his memoirs “Japan was
already defeated and dropping the bomb was completely
unnecessary"

Congar
and the Curia
Martin Mallon
(Tuesday blogger from Ireland)
Newman had to defend himself against the “schismatic spirit” of
the right. The similarities with today’s church are striking as the curia and
hierarchy present a “schismatic spirit”. This can be seen in the
non-implementation of Vatican II teachings on collegiality and subsidiarity,
together with the
reform of the reform Charismatic
Faith
and Prison Ministry
Pastor Tobias Brandner, HK
( Aust. Pentecostal
Studies)
There
is a tradition of Christians using imprisonment as a lens through which to
see God. They understand prison as a living parable that points to
fundamental experiences in human existence – corporality, limitation,
suffering, chains, hopelessness, and
death. This second tradition stands in critical tension with the
social-constructive tradition and, historically, expressed itself in
various forms of care, compassion, and solidarity with those in prison.
For anyone
concerned with prison ministry/conditions, this article is an enlightening
must read!

Our enthusiasm for a pilgrim church can only be sustained by a clear

David Timbs (CathBlog)
Lately the Vatican Press Office has been
working overtime attempting to negotiate the rapids of a power struggle
between the Roman Curia and the Secretariat of State.
The ongoing tabloid drama of
Curial internecine, corruption, power-games, intrigue and deception
graphically indicate advanced institutional decay and decline. There is an
unholy war raging in the Vatican. It is doing good neither for product

"Where

issue of same-sex marriage?"
John W
In reply to this comment:
I guess I would like to know how you
feel about same-sex marriage,
if you put that in the category of "anything goes" or if you think
there is room for dialogue and acceptance on this? I am a straight woman,
married 25 years, but have come, over time to support, strongly, the idea
that the dedicated, loving relationships of gay people are worthy of honor
and dignity. I've appreciated your website, but would appreciate knowing
where you stand on this.
