Care

Brian Lewis
(Monday blogger from Australia)
Note these words from JPII:
'Pastors
are obliged to exercise careful discernment of situations. There is a
difference between those who have sincerely tried to save their first
marriage and have been unjustly abandoned, and those who through their
own fault have destroyed a canonically valid marriage. There are
those who have entered into a second union for the sake of the children's
upbringing, and who are sometimes subjectively certain in conscience that
their previous and irreparably destroyed marriage had never been valid'.

Church
Governance & Conscience
Martin Mallon
(Tuesday blogger from Ireland)
What
are the People of God to do when faced with a hierarchy that is ignoring some of
the main teachings
of an Ecumenical Council?
In
the fourth century for over 30 years during the Arian crisis,
the Church taught that Jesus
was not divine. This was in opposition to the teaching of the
Council of Nicea in 325 AD.
St
Athanasius and the laity ignored official Church teaching and listened to
the conscience God gave them, until the teaching of the divinity of Christ
was restored.
As Newman says “The Catholic people, in the
length and breadth of Christendom, were the obstinate champions of Catholic
truth,
and the bishops were not.”

Why do you mix with outcasts?
------------------------
A young businessman was sharing a
compartment on a train with an elderly gentleman. He noticed that
the old fellow was quietly praying his rosary. The young man chided him
for his ‘superstition’ since science had rendered religion irrelevant.
“How did you come to discover that?” the old gentleman asked.
His companion didn’t really know how to answer the question fully right
then and there, so he offered to send him a few texts and public lecture
notes on the subject for his enlightenment. “What’s your
address?’ he asked, “I’ll send you the material via the Post
Office.” The old man rummaged in his coat pocket and produced a
tattered business card that read:
Louis Pasteur,
