From today's article by Brian Lewis:
What
the magisterium of the Church teaches in this area should exhibit,
as theologian Joe Selling wisely maintains, the three
characteristics of credibility,
communicability
and conviction.
On these three pillars rests the authoritativeness of the Church's
day-to-day teaching. Without them, no amount of insistence will make
something credible, more communicable or convincing, and so insure against
the possibility/probability of change.

Vat II & legitimacy of Canon 129
Martin Mallon
(Tuesday blogger from Ireland)
So it is shocking to realise that the new updated Code of Canon Law of
1983, promulgated eighteen years after the Second Vatican Council, should
be more, not less, restrictive and works to prevent the laity from
fulfilling their mission in the Church.
It would appear that a teaching of Vatican II has been and is being
contravened.
It is worth noting that Orsy points out: “History is not on the side of
Canon 129. Therefore, the restriction can hardly be grounded in dogma.
It must be a disciplinary provision, and if so, it can be
changed.” What community can't
change a bad law?
Silencing
priests weaken chuch authority (ACP)
Sean O'Conaill
This article provides an interesting angle on the
recent silencing and disciplining of priests by the Vatican. Sean is
suggesting that, rather than strengthening Vatican authority, these
actions are actually weakening it.
